Established in 1987…
Short Lane Ag Supply, LLC was named as such not only because the business was located on Short Lane, but because customers had a hard time spelling Oehmichen.
Our first year in business we sold a mere 39 bags of Sokota seed corn. The following year we added a Cargill seed dealership, and we were off and running. Within three years, we sold over 2000 bags of seed corn.
In 1993, we added our chemical line and formed SL Spraying, allowing us to provide custom chemical applications for our customers, covering thousands of acres in the central Wisconsin area.
ABOUT THE OWNERS
Larry Oehmichen (Founder)
A 3rd generation farmer, he found his station in life being a dairy farmer alongside his dad, Jim, on the farm that eventually became our headquarters in Colby, WI. Soon he saw a void in the area for quality agronomists with honest prices. With his passion and knowledge it quickly became a quick fit for him being an independent retailer. His strong knowledge in rotations, forage needs for animals, profitability per acre, and understanding farmers needs is the pillar that makes Short Lane the company that it is. Marrying his highschool sweet heart, he has 3 sons and six grandchildren. Though the farm fields are home, his enjoyment is being in the outdoors angling and hunting.
Craig Oehmichen
4th generation farmer, Craig knew from a young age he was destined to be in agriculture. After getting a degree from Fox Valley Tech he spent some time working in ag retail, but after realizing he wanted to own his own company he came back home to the farm to work alongside dad. Craig and his wife bought a dairy farm and started milking cows and raising their two kids. Currently the cows are sold and Craig continues to farm the land, using conservation practices and new farming techniques to increase yields and leave a lasting legacy of good land stewardship. Craig’s farming practices make him well suited for his role on the advisory board for Wisconsin’s largest watershed group; the Eau Pleine Partnership for Integrated Conservation. He is an expert in pesticide products and application, as well as agronomic functions. When not in a sprayer or speaking about soil health he is around the water, warm or frozen, chasing fish.
Matthew Oehmichen
Youngest of the brood, Matt returned back to the family business in 2014 after getting his degree from University of Wisconsin Stevens Point and spending some time as a history teacher in public education. He manages our social media accounts, videos/images, presentations at meetings, but also works with farmers nutrient and landscape management. He has been doing extensive work in soil health and ag conservation, specifically cover cropping/interseeding, which has led him to work with natural resource and environmental agencies/organizations to share the story of the Wisconsin farmer. Serving on the advisory board for Eau Pleine Partnership for Integrated Conservation, Matthew gets to share, collaborate, and educate to bring a stronger farming economy and community for northern central Wisconsin. His passions are his wife and 3 kids, videography, and working towards making a difference.
